About the Event

Empowered Citizens of Birmingham is partnering with the City of Birmingham AmeriCorps Vista’s for a MLK Day of Service. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and his will for equality and justice, we decided it would be caring and educational to pick up trash near and around the Bonita Carter Memorial Sign, the Kingston Housing area, and Stockham Park. The Kingston Neighborhood is a gem; a necessary representation of the bravery that was engraved in the precious life of Bonita, the unity of the people, and the birth of a new era in Birmingham.

We’ve been following the podcast series Reckon Radio 'Unjustifiable' by John Archibald and Roy S. Johnson to learn more about the story and life of Bonita Carter. We encourage everyone to check it out and join us on Monday, January 18th, 9am-11am, as we love on the Kingston Community.

  • All Cleaning Supplies, Hand Sanitizer, and Mask Provided
  • Social Distance Enforced
  • Registration at 8:30am
