"UJIMA HOLIDAY" RILEY NEIGHBORHOOD - CLEAN UP
November 18, 2023
Partnering with the Riley Neighborhood and President Ochuba is always pleasant. They help make the project planning and execution such an ease. This is partly because of the tremendous volunteer support they bring on their own. Because they are so readily organized with their routes and directions, we were not able to capture every volunteer because we were dispersed throughout. Nonetheless, upon arrival to check-in, everyone was welcomed with a warm greeting and holiday snacks and beverages. Another great Ujima Holiday success, spreading work and cooperation!
JONES VALLEY - NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP
March 25, 2023
It turns out, it was a good idea to reschedule this cleanup after all. With Jones Valley's active neighborhood officers and local community organizations, we covered Wiggins Park, Aspen Ave SW, along Jones Valley Middle School campus, and Jefferson Ave. Thanks to a previously held cleanup, we were able to help maintain the work.
District 7, President Grayson and her team, Woke Vote, Magic City Blight Busters, and all our other volunteers truly enjoyed connecting with members of the community while beautifying the neighborhood.
We appreciate the City of Birmingham Parks and Rec for allowing their facility to our team.
"MLK DAY OF SERVICE" EAST LAKE NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN UP
January 17, 2022
This clean up was surprisingly way more impactful than expected! Even in freezing cold weather, we had committed volunteers to show up. We spread to cover as much ground as possible. We noticed that our neighbors kept the areas clean for at least two weeks straight. Let's go East Lake!
BROWNVILLE - COMMUNITY CLEANUP
June 24, 2023
East Brownville neighborhood officers and community residents were up and at it early, ready to lead this clean up! It was great to see their eager and smiling faces. At this event, we were able to spread across the community to make as much impact as possible. The areas we canvassed to clean were West Brownville along Park Ave SW, East Brownville along Wenonah Rd, East Brownville Park perimeter, and the Hillman Neighborhood. Our partners D7 and Kiss FM came with the good vibes and music. What a great way to spend an hot day with cool people. WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY!
GREEN ACRES - NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP
February 18, 2023
A small group gathered on a fairly cold morning to clean a few streets in the Green Acres Neighborhood. This felt good for the group considering this neighborhood is a gateway into our beautiful city. We are looking forward to returning later this year to create even more of an impact! Thank you to the neighborhood president, Mr. Littleton, for his support and guidance.
"UJIMA HOLIDAY" EAST LAKE NEIGHBORHOOD - CLEAN UP
November 20, 2021
What a beautiful day with beautiful people! Another year of great weather perfect for a day of service. Downey Park is a neighborhood gem and resident's favorite. We look to encourage frequenters of the park to be remember to dispose of all trash items after use and to be mindful of the beauty this space provides for us all. Thanks to the volunteers and supporters for helping to make this event a success.
"UJIMA HOLIDAY" GERMANIA PARK - CLEAN UP
November 21, 2020
Such a great turnout on a beautiful and warm Saturday! We had support from our local radio station, members of the community and church, young men's mentor group, and family and friends. It was a naturally festive event full of colorful characters and crispy fall breezes. Thanks to our volunteers for joining us in being "collectively responsible" for cleaning our neighborhood. It was truly a blast and we hope to see you for Ujima Holiday 2021!
"EARTH DAY 2023" - COMMUNITY CLEANUP
April 22, 2023
The turnout of youth for this year's Earth Day was simply amazing! Truly, the turnout of all volunteers exceeded our expectations.
Love D7 Day attracted residents from across the district. We are very proud of the Jones Valley Middle School students and Green Acres' cheerleaders and football team, who led the pack with their large turnout and enthusiastic spirits. Prosper's CCAB group was very impactful in the Fountain Heights Neighborhood. They adjusted to navigating their routes once they noticed some had already been cleaned. The staff at Jones Valley Middle School and Fountain Heights graciously offered their facilities for our use during the cleanup.
Altogether, we are thankful to have held two cleanups, simultaneously, in two different neighborhoods. With the help of our committed volunteers and partners, we were able to demonstrate the beauty we can enhance in our communities when we come together to work in unison.
Again, thanks to all who took the time to make our Earth Day Celebration a success!
Here is a full list of groups who contributed to the cleanup: Jones Valley Middle School Staff & Students, Green Acres' Cheerleaders & Football Team, Prosper's CCAB, Woke Vote, Blight Busters, Girl Scouts, Outlaws Night Life, AKAs and our wonderful Neighborhood Association Officers.
"MLK DAY OF SERVICE" - GRASSELLI HEIGHTS CLEAN UP
January 16, 2023
Starting the year strong! As we look forward to a year full of beautification, we are grateful for all who made this MLK DAY successful! Volunteers from across the city joined together to love on the Grasselli Heights Neighborhood and the Wenonah High School Campus. We partnered with our city council, District 7, and the City of Birmingham AmeriCorp Vistas to charge this event. Lastly, thanks to some of our committed volunteer groups: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Blight Busters, and our friends from the Riley Neighborhood Association.
WENONAH FOOTBALL - CLEAN UP
May 29, 2021
Kudos to these young men for their leadership and commitment to beautifying their community! With the help of residents and the City Council Rep, Wardine Alexander, we cleaned along Wilson Rd. and around Wenonah High School. We thank the football team and coaching staff for choosing to conclude spring practice with community service.
